Frequently asked questions
What is the statutory minimum vacation in Germany?
The Federal Vacation Act sets 24 working days based on a 6-day week. That is 4 weeks. On a 5-day week it is 20 vacation days, on 3 working days per week 12 days.
What is partial vacation?
If you do not work the whole year, you get one twelfth of the annual vacation per full month of employment. Fractions of half a day or more are rounded up to whole days, smaller fractions stay.
When do I have the full entitlement?
You earn the full entitlement for the first time after 6 months of employment. If you start in the second half of the year, you only get partial vacation in the first year.
Does this apply to part-time work too?
Yes. The entitlement is converted to the working days per week. If you work 3 days, you have 12 statutory vacation days, but still 4 weeks of vacation.
