Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate the percentage value?
Base value times percentage divided by 100. Example: 19 % of 200 is 200 times 19 divided by 100, so 38.
How do I calculate the percentage rate?
Partial value divided by base value times 100. Example: 25 out of 200 is 25 divided by 200 times 100, so 12.5 %.
How do I work out a discount?
Price times (1 minus discount percent divided by 100). Example: 80 € with 25 % off is 80 times 0.75, so 60 €.
Why does plus 20 %, then minus 20 % not return the starting value?
The second percentage refers to a new, larger base value. 100 plus 20 % is 120, and 20 % of 120 is 24. The result is 96.
