Frequently asked questions
What notice period applies to employees?
By law 4 weeks to the 15th or the end of a calendar month. The longer periods by length of service only apply when the employer gives notice. Your contract may state a longer period for you.
What periods apply when the employer gives notice?
After 2 years 1 month, after 5 years 2 months, after 8 years 3 months, after 10 years 4 months, after 12 years 5 months, after 15 years 6 months and after 20 years 7 months, each to the end of a month.
How long is the period during probation?
During an agreed probation period of at most 6 months, the period is 2 weeks, with no fixed dates.
What does receipt mean?
The period starts on the day the notice reaches the other side, not on the day it was written. Notice must be in writing; an email is not enough.
