Cat years in human years: chart and life stages
Cats grow up fast and age more slowly afterwards. The simple rule "one cat year equals seven human years" therefore does not fit.
The rule of thumb
- Year 1: about 15 human years
- Year 2: plus 9, so 24
- Every further year: about 4 more
Examples: 5 years is about 36, 10 years about 56 and 15 years about 76 human years.
The life stages
- Kitten up to 6 months
- Young cat up to 2 years
- Adult from 3 to 6 years
- Mature from 7 to 10 years
- Senior from 11 to 14 years
- Geriatric from 15 years
Good to know
- This is a rule of thumb for comparison, not a health value.
- From about 7 years, regular vet check-ups make sense.
- A profile with birthday, vaccinations and quirks helps you not forget anything.
