Days between two dates: how to calculate
The difference between two dates is easy once you decide whether the first and last day count. The date calculator does this for you.
Start day and end day
Normally the start day does not count: from Monday to Wednesday is 2 days. If you want to count both days, for example for a holiday, the end day is added and it is 3 days.
Working days
Working days here are Monday to Friday. We do not subtract public holidays because they differ by region. Subtract them yourself if needed.
Date plus days
For deadlines like a 14-day return period or 30 days to pay, you add days to the start date. The result is the calendar day on which the period ends, without moving it for weekends or public holidays.
Good to know
- A year has 365 days, a leap year 366.
- Legal deadlines follow their own rules, for example extension to the next working day.
- Months have 28 to 31 days, so the calculator shows years, months and days separately.
General calculation aid without guarantee. Legally important deadlines follow special rules, for example weekends and public holidays; ask if in doubt. Updated: November 2026
